The Continental Village Fire Department is located on the border of Westchester and Putnam
counties in the state of New York. We are a 100% volunteer department which provides fire and
rescue services in the town of Cortlandt (Cortlandt Manor) and the town of Phillipstown (Garrison).
Our area comprises of a ten square mile area with population of approximately 3,500 residents.
NY Route 9 is the main road through our community, which is a major undivided highway
with a high transit volume. Along with Stony Point FD, we provide protection to the
Bear Mountain Bridge which has a volume of 20,000 vehicles daily. We also supply primary
fire and rescue service to Camp Smith, a 2,000 acre New York State National Guard base.
The Metro North Commuter Railroad and CSX Transportation freight trains run through our
district as well. During the day the railroad carries commuter traffic to and from New
York City. During overnight hours, the rail line carries a variety of commercial products
that are in route to facilities in surrounding towns. The Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant
Facility is just a few miles to the south.
