Timothy Heil was a friend of mine who lived on Ethan Drive. His mother was our cub scout leader back in the early seventies when my father Herbert Herbst was the department president. Timothy moved to Florida when I was about 12 or 13 years old and I remember how much I missed my friend. We played baseball out in front of his house...in fact the Versace boys played with us. I will never forget the department picnics before the remodeling in the mid seventies when all the old farm buildings were still there. If anyone remembers my father, he was born with only half of his left arm, but he and my mother Edith were still runner up in the egg toss contest. Very fond memories. George Wack, who my brother, sisters and I referred to as "Uncle George" had Fourth of July parties at his house on Canopus Hollow Road every summer after the parade. I also remember going to day camp at the clubhouse, swimming in the lake and listening to the siren go off while under water at the beach. I will never forget the 22 years I spent growing up in Continental Village, the picnics, the parades and the sense of family greater than my own.

My father was a fireman at the CVFD when I was a kid growing up in Continental Village. We used to have our boy scout meetings at the station.

I was googling my grandfathers name when I came across this web site. My grandfather Harold Placke Sr. was president of the CVFD in 59,60,63,68 and 69. The whole family moved out of the village between 72 and 74. My grandfather passed in 95. It is good to see he is not forgotten for his service to his community.
Great site! We have a niece and family that lives in Crompond, NY and love visiting the area. Check out our site too. Best wishes and keep safe on the calls!!
What a great web-site. Your pictures of the trucks are great. Did you use Topaz to finish. Wish you would let me know. Check out my pics. Thanks and keep up the good job.
