On Friday the Continental Village Fire Department held a diner to honor Virty Shadt, a 50 year member of the Continental Village Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. The Ladies Auxiliary had many very important roles in the early operations of the fire department. They raised funds to help the fire department when money was VERY tight. They responded at all hours of the day and night to bring food and drinks to the scene of emergency calls. Three of the Ladies served as Fire Operators. Janet Schnoes, Dolores Beck and Virty each had a fire phone in their home. They answered calls and dispatched the CVFD from their homes. Last, but not least, the Ladies Auxiliary members supported their “Men” in their commitment to protect our neighbors. Virty served in all of the offices of the Ladies Auxiliary. Her hard work along with the hard work of all the members of the Ladies Auxiliary proved to be invaluable to the Continental Village Fire Department.
