July 5, 2015

On Sunday Morning at around 8:50 The Continental Village fire Department and Peekskill Ambulance were dispatched to Anthony’s Nose of a report injured hiker. Once on scene firefighters hiked about halfway up the mountain and made contact with the injured hiker. At this point it was determined that this would be a labor intensive high angle rope rescue operation and additional units would be needed. Garrison, Fort Montgomery and West Point’s Fire Departments, as well as Westchester County PD ESU were called in to assist with the removal of the hiker. Fire and PD units brought the hiker down the mountain to a rock outcrop where Westcherter County PD’s Aviation unit was able to hoist the injured hiker up and bring him down to the roadway where a waiting ambulance transported him across the Bear Mt. Bridge to a waiting Medevac Helicopter for transport to Westchester Medical Center. The entire operation took approximately 4 hours.
