On Friday Morning around 6:40 AM the Continental Village Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a Structure Fire on Putnam Road in the area of Strang Lane in the Cortlandt Section of our district. When the first unit arrived on scene he reported finding a two story wood frame house with the first floor fully involved and the fire extending to the second floor with possible entrapment. The first in engine hooked into a hydrant at the corner of Strang and Putnam and started the initial attack. At this point a 10-75 or working fire had been transmitted bringing engines and tankers from Garrison, & Putnam Valley, and engine from Mohegan along with Peekskill's FAST team and Buchanan's Cascade unit. Peekskill Ambulance was also requested to the scene to stand-by and for rehab. During one of the initial attempts to get inside crews found a victim who had passed away. Fire units got the fire under control around 7:30 AM and started the overhaul process. The Westchester County fire investigation team as well as investigators from the New York state police were called in to investigate the fire. Firefighters remained on scene until around 11:30AM.
