Members of Continental Village Fire Department kept busy throughout the tropical storm that had occurred the previous day. Crews responded to a variety of calls throughout the day. 7 Beginning the night before when the weather had just started to become rainy, units responded to an MVA on the Bear Mountain Bridge Road at 21:58
At 07:20, Units then responded to an Automatic Fire Alarm with access unable to be gained. Crews had to go through a window to make entry into the residence and ensure everything inside was safe. Units made contact with a property owner and relayed all necessary information.
At 10:05, Crews then proceeded to Sprout Brook Road for wires down and a transformer fire. When units arrived on scene, it was found that primary wires had snapped and were across the roadway, Car 2131 (Chief Joseph Maffettone) requested ConEdison and units shut down the roadway and awaited their arrival.
While operating at Sprout Brook Road, Units received an additional call at 10:37 for another Transformer/Wire fire in the area of Ridge Road. Rescue 69 remained on scene, with Car 2132 (Chief Craig Stilwell) en route, at Sprout Brook while Engine 232 and Car 2131 proceeded to Ridge Road. Units found a tree down on wires with a tree smoldering and lots of smoke in the area. Central Hudson was requested and once they arrived, scene was turned over to them and Engine 232 returned to service while Car 2131 returned to Sprout Brook Road to wrap up.
At 11:25, Units then responded to an Automatic Fire Alarm at Camp Smith.
Then at 17:41, Crews once again went out to the area of 134 Jack Road for multiple poles and wires down. Car 2131, 2132, Mini Attack 4, Rescue 69 and Rescue 39 all responded to this incident and once on scene, a utility pole was found down on the roadway with a transformer also fallen and spilling out fluid. There was also additional trees down further past the scene, but due to safety precautions, units staged near the utility pole. ConEdison was notified, and crews worked on containing the fluid spill. Once ConEd arrived, they investigated and FD personnel were released.
Lastly, Crews were called once again, at 20:44 to the area of Ridge Rd for a Transformer/Wire Fire. Units responded in and found a large tree down on top of the wires. There was no active fire and crews worked on shutting down the road and notifying Central Hudson. Once the roadway was shut down, crews cleared from the scene.
