Late Monday, Members of various Phillipstown departments dispatched to a possible kitchen fire on South Mountain Pass in the Garrison Fire District. While en route the fire was quickly upgraded to a possible structure fire with many callers reporting heavy fire from the house. On arrival firefighters rushed to get hose lines into place and get water on the fire. The fire continued to spread despite the best efforts of firefighters on the scene that had come from as far as Ft. Montgomery and Yorktown Heights. Braving extreme heat and collapses of parts of the structure firefighters fought to get the fire under control. The was subdued at around 4 am and units began packing up and heading home. Mutual aid departments from Westchester, Putnam and Orange County were put back in service while firefighters from Garrison and Continental Village stayed overnight prevent rekindling of the fire. All units were back in service around 8 am Tuesday.
