On Tuesday, October 28th, Continental Village Fire Department came together with Peekskill Community Volunteer Ambulance Corp to conduct a joint training. The CVFD members reviewed their turnout gear, the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), and the facepiece they use when wearing an SCBA. Members discussed this with EMS; in the event that a firefighter is injured or extricated from a burning structure and requires medical evaluation, the EMTs and paramedics can be properly trained on how to remove this turnout gear and other equipment to facilitate further assessment of the individual. PCVAC members then discussed the types of burns we may encounter and how to assess their severity. Lastly, PCVAC members demonstrated various types of equipment on the ambulance to ensure that CVFD personnel are familiar with how to operate them and assist the ambulance team on scene, and crews also practiced using the equipment.
We would like to thank PCVAC for taking the time to come down to our quarters and work together to train each of our members and each other on necessary things from both sides that we can utilize in the field to continue to provide the best service possible to those we serve!
